Two levels of reliable backup: Hitachi Backup helps keep your digital content safe with both automatic local and cloud (online) backup. Now you can have any-time access to your content from any computer or smartphone using an internet browser, or share with others by sending a web link. iPad and iPhone apps are also available for an additional cost.

The backup application is easily launched from LifeStudio software.

Just turn your backup ON and choose which folders you’d like backed up - you’ll be automatically protected. Backups occur every 30 minutes, or at a designated time chosen by you. You can click the Stop button at any time to stop the backup process.

With Hitachi Backup, you have the ability to configure your backups in the following ways:

  • Automatic (every 30 minutes) or schedule to a convenient time of the day
  • Number of revisions you want the LifeStudioSoftware to keep (you can keep up to 100 versions of a file).
  • Maximum file size for cloud backup (if a file is larger than 5 GB, it will not be backed up).
  • Maximum upload bandwidth.

To restore files, just click the restore button within the backup application and specify where you’d like them restored to. You can restore from your external hard drive or Cloud backup account.

Hitachi provides you with 3 GB of cloud backup space for enhanced protection and anytime-access to your files. Hitachi Backup maintains a continuous backup for your media, so every time a file is added or modified a copy is made to the online server. Hitachi Backup starts when you start up your computer. No action on your part is necessary.

For $49/year, you have the option to upgrade to a larger online package with 250 GB of storage space and the option to use the iPhone and iPad apps to access your data on-the-go.

Backing up files on Hitachi Cloud Backup from multiple computers

You can back up files from multiple computers until you reach the maximum space allowed by your account. Install the Hitachi Backup software on each computer you want to back up data from. Each computer will be displayed on your Hitachi Backup account as individual folders. If you exceed your space limits, you always have the option to purchase more storage space.

Sharing your data with friends using Hitachi’s Cloud Backup is easy. Just by right-clicking on a file, you have the option to share. Now you can email your friends or family a link to the file you wish to share with them. The recipient will be able to download the file directly to their computer.

What happens if I delete a file accidentally?

When you delete a file it is removed from your configuration and marked for deletion. Hitachi cloud storage will keep a copy of that file in older backup sets just in case the deletion was accidental. Older backup sets will be kept for 30 days and then deleted.
